Week to week, I’m not sure if I like my Nokia N95 or HTC S620 more. It’s a tough battle between Windows Mobile 6 and Symbian, as I love the QWERTY keyboard on the HTC S620, but then I start missing the Nokia’s browser and better phone features.

I think for now the Nokia N95 has won, as it’s the only way I can get decent access to my gmail account as the IMAP client on the HTC s620 doesn’t support gmail messages containing HTML, and the gmail mobile email app looks absolutely awful on the Windows Mobile device.

Another reason I love my Nokia N95 is the wide range of applications that can be installed. Just feast your eyes on If you’re looking to pimp your Nokia N95 then there are some great applications here:

  1. Fring: Free mobile VoIP app with Skype, Google Talk, ICQ, MSN Messenger and Twitter support
  2. SlingPlayer Mobile: Stream and control your SlingPlayer
  3. The Filter: Navigate your music in style and create on the fly playlists
  4. Emoze: Full Outlook push sync – who needs a crackblackberry?
  5. Nokia Sports Tracker: Keep track of your training schedule
  6. WWIGO: Webcam Wherever I Go – works both ways, using the N95’s camera
  7. Movino: Collection of open source for broadcasting/streaming to smartphones
  8. Calcium: One of my personal favs, the best calculator for S60 handsets
  9. Lifeblog: blog and share your photos on the move
  10. Shozu: Post your photos and videos to multiple sites
  11. Gizmo: Make calls over WiFi to save money
  12. Jaiku Mobile: Alternative to twitter
  13. MyStrands: Great music player and discovery tool
  14. Handy Taskman: Adds several useful toos to your Nokia phone
  15. RotateMe: Give the iPhone a run for its money with this cool screen orientation tool
  16. Screenshot For Symbian: Save your screenshots in popular image formats
  17. EMTube: Another fav.  Improve the way you watch YouTube videos on your phone
  18. Opera Mini: Great browser for smartphones
  19. Flip Silent: When a call comes in, go into silent mode just by flipping your phone!
  20. Shutup: Another silence/flipping service
  21. Wavelog: Blogging service for S60
  22. Dr Kukka’s Inclinometer: No practical use other than to show off to mates.  Tells you when you are tilted….
  23. QIK: Stream videos from your N95 to the web
  24. Nokia Internet Radio: A….radio service
  25. EXTGPS: Use the N95 GPS with your laptop via bluetooth

The first one I’m going to install is Fring. One of my team who out-techs me (he setup and sold his own ISP) has a N95 as well and he constantly raves about Fring. This great free mobile VoIP application allows free mobile internet calls to other ‘fringsters’ and to PC-based services including Skype®, Google TalkTM, ICQ, MSN® Messenger and Twitter, using free Wi-Fi or your 3G or GPRS internet data plan instead of costly mobile airtime minutes.

The feature I didn’t know about before is that Fring moves automatically between WiFi and 3G networks, using Fixed-Mobile-Convergence (FMC). , auto-connecting to Wi-Fi and 3G networks without manual user involvement. I can’t wait to try this out to see if it works whilst in a call.

I’ll let you know how I get on.  Thanks to N95 blog for the list.
