Textually.org picked up on a story that in the UK 25% of the workforce are using their mobile phones to get around internet access blocks on work PCs.
“Nearly half of the employees surveyed (48%) use their mobile phone to access the Internet at work; from downloading music to buying groceries online, with further research illustrating that 15% of users resorting to hiding in the toilet just to get online.”
I have to admit that without consciously deciding to do this, I’m one of these users. Since I got my Nokia N95, while I’m at work I tend to use my phone to keep tabs on my personal email and Google Reader. Those of you who email me during the day will now probably realise why my replies are sometimes so short.
I have fairly open internet access on my work PC, but the phone comes in handy as I can check my stuff whilst I’m walking to meetings etc. I also have to confess that I do also read and reply to my emails while I’m in the toilet….but never fear, unlike some people, I never make any calls. I could never do that to anyone!
